Tips Regarding Country Escapes

A visit to the country is always amazing, the fresh air, open spaces... We love the country and we love having you, here are a few guidelines for booking your next trip, long or short:

  • Think about the aim of your country escapes: are you adventurous and would like to hike and do mountain biking? Do you prefer a winery and a laid-back weekend? Or do you prefer to take a stroll down a historic main road and wander through museums, curios shops and make friend with the locals? Every town has a unique offering, make sure you choose one suitable for your goal.

  • Once you’ve decided on your country escapes, contacting local tourist offices can put you in touch with a knowledgeable individual for guidance on attractions and amenities the town offers.  Another way to decide is to ask friends and family for references of their favourite spots.

  • Timing in life is everything, and so is deciding how much time you’re willing to spend getting to your destination: spending long hours in the car may be tiring, but the destination may be totally worth it. Putting a time frame on travelling to/from home, will further guide your decision.

About Royal Hotel Dungog

This town on the Williams River and surrounded by distinctive hills, was so named in 1834, from a Gringai Aboriginal word meaning “lightly wooded hills”. The Royal Hotel was part of the original town, as it was first built on this site in 1850. First called the Durham, it was renamed the Royal early last century. A fire destroyed the hotel in 1930 and the currently Art Deco building was built in 1939.
